"Halleluiah!" or The AmiWest 2002 transcripts
      Author: Emanuel Mair   Date Verified:
On the 27th to the 28th of July, 2002, the Amiga show AmiWest 2002 took place in Sacramento, California, USA. On Saturday July 27th, Bill McEwen, CEO of Amiga Inc., the company currently in possession of the Amiga trademarks, made an appearance at the show. He made two speeches and participated in an interview, which like the rest of the show were broadcast over the net by the Amiga User Group Network. People recorded these audio transmissions, and here you'll find written transcipts from those huge MPEG-audio files (follow that link and you'll also find a summary of the telephone interview with Ben Hermans - thanks to Andreas Loong and the people with mirrors for providing this stuff).

      Author: Joachim Froholt   Date Verified:
The AIM Project (Amiga Indexes of Magazines) is here to provide an index of Amiga magazines so you'll know which magazine to find a specific review/preview/feature/etc in. This is especially helpful if you have a stack of old magazines and you need to find that elusive feature without reading through every one of your magazines in turn. The indexes are not supposed to be a database of information, just indexes, and as you'll see, we are still missing a lot of issues - can you help us with any of these? Hey, all of us have issues, right? :) ACE Magazine Index, Amiga Computing Index (plain), Amiga Computing Index (html, with tables), Amiga Computing missing issues, Amiga Force Index (plain), Amiga Format Games Index, Amiga Format Serious Index, Amiga Power Games Index, Amiga Power PD Index, Amiga User, International Index (plain), Amiga User International Index (html, with tables), Amiga User Int. missing issues, CU-Amiga Index (plain), CU-Amiga Index (html, with tables), CU-Amiga Missing issues, The One Amiga Index (plain), The One Amiga Index (html, with tables), The One Amiga missing issues and Zero Index

      Amiga Translators' Organization
      Author: ATO   Date Verified:
Amiga Translators' Organization was created because for a long time, programmers who wanted translations for their programs would either have to post "Translators wanted"-mails onto newgroups and mailing lists, or they must use translators they knew. This was of course annoying to some users of the mailing lists and newsgroups, it would not give the programmer as many translators as possible, and last, but not least, the programmer didn't have any quality assurance of the translations done by his translators. ATO was then built as being an organized pool of translators. We want to make programmers' lives as easy as possible by offering many translators for a wide range of languages, and still offer the quality assurance. This quality assurance is done through the proofreading concept which you can see here.

      Author: Jargon File   Date Verified:
This document is a collection of slang terms used by various subcultures of computer hackers. Though some technical material is included for background and flavor, it is not a technical dictionary; what we describe here is the language hackers use among themselves for fun, social communication, and technical debate. The `hacker culture' is actually a loosely networked collection of subcultures that is nevertheless conscious of some important shared experiences, shared roots, and shared values. It has its own myths, heroes, villains, folk epics, in-jokes, taboos, and dreams. Because hackers as a group are particularly creative people who define themselves partly by rejection of `normal' values and working habits, it has unusually rich and conscious traditions for an intentional culture less than 40 years old.

Origin of a Browser - The Netscape Museum
      Author: Chuck Lau   Date Verified:
"Origin of a Browser" is a project dedicated to web archaeology - the study and preservation of rapidly disappearing artifacts associated with the Early Netscape Period. In October of 1994, Mosaic Communications Corporation (renamed "Netscape Communications" on 11 November 1994) introduced the first public beta of their browser, "Mosaic NetScape." Those interested in this era will note that many of the web pages, images, and other artifacts dating from this time have been lost because of the ever-changing nature of the Internet. In fact, older versions of the Netscape browser itself are becoming increasingly endangered, particularly the pre-release betas predating version 1.0.

That's cool too. Grab a slice of your history and make a statement. Take that corporate machined blah computer off your desk! Buy the whole system or just the parts to do it yourself.       The Amiga RC5 team Effort
Author: Amiga RC5 Challenge   Date Verified: 0205-02-01
The RSA Secret Key Challenge is about the need for stronger encryption for the Internet to safeguard privacy. To prove this need and to prove that current encryption strengths are insufficient RSA Labs have started a challenge to crack the DES and RC5 algorithms (RC5 in several different strengths) and tied an award of up to US $10,000 to each key found. In the late nineties several combined efforts have sprung up to crack these keys by using the distributed power of computers in a brute force approach over the Internet, so far cracking the 56 bit DES key (three times), the first three RC5 keys (40, 48 and 56 bit) and unrelated to the RSA contests, a 56 bit CSC key; several other projects some of which unrelated to encryption are happening or in the pipeline, such as Optimal Golomb Rulers (OGR). We aim to participate in these efforts for the sake of exposure for the Amiga.

Motivation. Ever held a subscription to BUGTRAQ? If you happen to be filming a documentary about how suckass developers are producing the flimsy ripe-for-failure infrastructure of the future, a year long subscription to Bugtraq should give you a boat-load of leads to follow. Software is getting really bad. When software was just crashing a lot it was bad enough. Save often. Install the latest patches. The server has been up for a month straight? No shit. Reboot it just n case. As bad as that was, the Internet has made it so much worse. While the Internet itself is probably the most impressive thing that humanity has built to date, it also comes with some nasty stuff that we're going to have to deal with. Since everyone in the world is now milliseconds away from all of this high quality software running on your computers, you face a circus of grave security risks.
